Dec 26, 2011 · Please bring another calculator to back up what mine says I drive 120 miles daily and the tank will run out at precisely 300 miles running 7.5 gallons E85 & 7.5 gallons 87 octane gasoline. So plan accordingly as to how many tanks you want to verify and how long you can stay in a hotel up here.
Sep 24, 2011 · Just wondering the difference between running E85 or E98. I know E98 is a higher octane and requires 15% more fuel than E85. Also, E98 is a more constant fuel. E85 (around me) is not too difficult to find. There are a bunch of stations within a 12 mile radius. E98 on the other hand can only be bought at a shop about 30 minutes from me.

Octane – superior performance, no knocking at all. Octane rating: Fuel rating basis – isooctane assigned a octane rating of 100. n-heptane assigned octane rating of 0. Octane rating of 90% means the fuel blend behaves as a mixture of 90% isooctane and 10% n-heptane. An early additive used as an anti-knocking agent was Tetraethyl lead. 4.7
Dec 12, 2011 · ~105 octane is the "normal" for E85 ~98 octane is normal for E70 "winter blend" ethanol. It all depends on where its blended, quality of fuel blended, quality of distillation, etc. However when winter blends come out around me, the ethanol pumps go from E85 to E70. If you are tuned on "the edge" with E85, E70 = motor death.

The app is smart and it will remember your tank capacity and target ethanol mix values so next time you want to see how much E85 you need to add to get your target ethanol mix, you will only have to specify your current tank percentage. This way it is the fastest method to calculate how much gas and e85 you need to put in the tank. It is such a fast method, by the time you get out of your car ...

The main reason E85 allows for some much more power than traditional gasoline is that it has a very high octane rating, usually from around 100 to 105 octane, compared to 91 to 93 octane from normal gasoline. This high octane rating allows E85 to resist engine knock.

When you mix 10 percent 113 octane ethanol with 85 octane gasoline it increases the octane two points to the normal 87 octane most consumers use. So the higher the ethanol content, the higher the octane. The octane rating for E15 (15% ethanol) is 88 octane and E85 (85% ethanol) is 108 octane.

The problem with the F30's and using e85 across the board is usually the fuel delivery system. Gasoline has more energy than e85, so as a result more e85 mixed fuel is needed for the same explosion. Yes the octane is higher, but so is the fuel consumption. The difference I felt using e85 vs no e85 was significant, the butt dyno could tell for ...
May 22, 2008 · E85 (85% ethanol) has less energy, as you point out. I've seen estimates of around 25% lower fuel economy. Now if BMW (and other manufactuers) were to build vehicles tuned to run just on E85, and not the flexibility of either E85 or gasoline, then you could probably make them more efficient. E85 is rare except in the upper midwest.
